Zoloft and Pregnancy
Since Zoloft is an SSRI antidepressant, it can have some serious and life-threatening side effects in newborn babies. One of the common issues witnessed in such cases is lung problems in babies whose mother had consumed Zoloft after conceiving.
Your depression might revert back to its prior phase if you stop taking Zoloft at the time of pregnancy. It is recommended to consult your doctor immediately, if you become pregnant during the course of this treatment.
Talk to your doctor about the consequences of pregnancy with Zoloft. There is not much information available to support the theory of whether or not Zoloft passes through breast milk. It is advised not to breast feed your baby if your taking Zoloft unless recommended by your doctor.
Zoloft and Alcohol
It is advised not to take alcohol while on Zoloft medication as it can make you feel drowsier. One drink can have an effect of two. For example, it will enhance the severity of side effects like drowsiness, slow reflexes etc. these effects might take place immediately or after sometime.
Do not take liquid form of Zoloft if you are taking Disulfiarm (Antabuse). It is learnt that liquid Zoloft can contain alcohol which can cause serious side effects with Disulfram.
If you usually experience the feeling of tiredness, depression after drinking, then these feelings might get enhanced if you are taking zoloft with alcohol.
Alcohol being a central nervous system depressant and zoloft producing sedative effects can result in lowered heart rate and blood pressure changes. You might increase the risk of enhancing these effects if you consume larger quantity of alcohol.
Headaches and Sexual Dysfunction are possible zoloft side effects related with the combination of alcohol and antidepressant medications like zoloft.
Zoloft Withdrawal
DO NOT STOP taking Zoloft without consulting your doctor. Sudden withdrawal of Zoloft can cause some unwanted and serious side effects. Zoloft withdrawal symptoms can be observed in about 8 hrs from the missed dosage. These withdrawal effects can last up to 6-8 weeks.
The following are some of the withdrawal symptoms:-
- Anxiety, Dizziness, Fatigue
- Vomiting, Restlessness, Abdominal discomfort, Diarrhea
- Muscle and joint pain
- Tingling sensations
- Fever
- Flu like symptoms
- Insomnia
- Having vivid or scary dreams
- Anorexia, agitation
- Irritability, Aggression
- Confusion, Memory and concentration difficulties
- Lethargy
- Tremors
- Headache
- Nausea
- Visual hallucinations
- Blurred vision, Vertigo
- Gait disturbances
- Sweating, Weakness
- Chills and hot flashes
- Crying spells
- Suicidal thoughts
